Lil Mosey Talks 2021 Rape Case, Being Found Not Guilty & His Return to Music

Lil Mosey is seeking to begin his life over after a tumultuous two-year interval. The melodic wunderkind who secured his first high 10 Billboard Scorching 100 single, “Blueberry Faygo,” in 2019 watched the top of his teenage years go ablaze.

First, the pandemic stymied his fiery run and the possibility of touring. Then, in 2021, Mosey was charged with second-degree rape after he was accused of getting intercourse with a girl at a celebration in Randle, Wash., in January 2020 whereas she was intoxicated and incapable of giving consent.

In his first interview because the verdict, Mosey speaks to Billboard concerning the case’s affect on him.

“It’s been powerful, mentally. I needed to rebuild my entire life,” says the Seattle star. “It sucks to have one thing like that be connected to my title, realizing I didn’t do it, and the entire world can see that.”

Whereas Mosey launched just a few songs final 12 months, he plans to flood the scene and launch a slew of recent music now that the trial is over. His prolonged absence allowed him to develop creatively and hone in on his voice — he can now hit notes he couldn’t land when he was in his late teenagers. “My voice is altering. Simply me recording, I see myself hitting various kinds of notes — notes that once I was 16, 17 [would make] my voice would crack. Now, I’m a person. I can hit sure notes that I wasn’t capable of hit. The songs that I’m creating are next-level.”

Mosey’s first providing got here post-trial when he launched “Flu Recreation.” The sing-songy anthem pays homage to Michael Jordan’s iconic 1997 NBA Finals sport, throughout which he performed below the climate however delivered a noteworthy efficiency.

Whereas the artist continues to ruminate on his journey, he hopes to rebound and thrive as Jordan did within the late ’90s. “I really feel like my final two years type of been a illness,” he says. “Proper now, I’m taking part in by way of that Flu Recreation.”
