Nicki Minaj ‘refused’ to license music for hip-hop docuseries

Nicki Minaj allegedly did not let the makers of a hip-hop docuseries license her music.

Netflix executives launched a trailer for the forthcoming docuseries, Women First: A Story of Ladies in Hip-Hop, on Tuesday and it featured appearances from Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Saweetie, Coi Leray, and Latto, amongst others.

Nicki’s followers took to Twitter, also called X, to blast her obvious snub, and Shawn Allen, who allegedly co-produced the venture, claimed she would not let the crew use her music or video promos.

“Nicki did not allow us to license her music & movies,” Allen wrote to a fan outraged by the omission.

Allen confirmed to a different person that they deliberate to incorporate the Starships rapper however “it did not make sense bc she did not give us any licensing (sic).”

He claimed that was the identical purpose why Get Ur Freak On hitmaker Missy Elliott is not included within the collection.

Elsewhere, Allen alleged that Nicki refused to license her materials as a result of she is engaged on her personal venture.

“I believe bc Nicki is engaged on her personal doc…I do not perceive why Missy did not agree,” he added, earlier than clarifying that Netflix officers purchased the four-episode documentary however did not produce it.

Women First: A Story of Ladies in Hip-Hop will premiere on Netflix on 9 August.

Nicki has but to touch upon Allen’s claims.
