Ok-pop stars TWICE dropped their first music of 2024 on Friday (Feb. 2), the high-energy tribute to friendship “I Bought You.” The group’s third English-language single is the primary style of their upcoming thirteenth mini album, With YOU-th (Feb. 23).
The video for the music finds Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu snuggling up collectively inside a ship’s cabin as it’s tossed by stormy seas. “A bit of reckless across the edges/ Name it younger, dumb love and it’s simply sufficient,” they sing over a bubbly new wave-style beat harking back to a double-time homage to A-Ha’s 1985 traditional “Take On Me.”
Comfy of their cuddle puddle because the waves flip placid, the ladies get led to shore by a bandmate in a lighthouse, the place they bust out some elegant choreo by the seashore. “No we’ll by no means crumble/ Even million miles aside/ We had been lightning from the beginning,” they sing earlier than diving into the joyous refrain: “Ooh/ It doesn’t matter what you bought me, I obtained you/ And I wouldn’t need it some other approach.”
The hovering tribute to friendship is filled with photographs of the band members dancing and holding palms in fields of gold and making pinkie swear guarantees to one another. It even features a dreamy animated sequence wherein they dive underneath the waves to frolic with marine life earlier than winding down with the singers putting Titanic-like poses on the bow of the ship as they take in the solar.
“I Bought You” is the follow-up to the nine-member group’s earlier English-language singles, “The Feels,” which landed their debut entry on the Billboard Sizzling 100 (No. 83) and “Moonlight Dawn” (No. 84).
The JYP Leisure group is within the midst of their Prepared To Be world tour, which can play Mexico Metropolis’s Foro Sol Stadium on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 3), earlier than transferring on to a pair of dates at Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo (Feb. 6-7) and a gig at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on March 16.
