Halsey Teases Cover of Britney Spears’ ‘Lucky’: ‘These Words Hit Different’

Halsey is paying tribute to the Princess of Pop.

The singer took to Instagram on Monday (July 1) to tease what seems to be a canopy or an unique track that samples Britney Spears’ 2000 hit, “Fortunate,” an ode to the lonelier aspect of fame. “She’s so fortunate, she’s a star/ However she cry, cry, cries in her lonely coronary heart, pondering/ If there’s nothing lacking in my life/ Then why do these tears come at night time?” Halsey sings the refrain within the teaser clip, including her personal kind of pop twist on the monitor.

“After I was 5, it at all times felt like Britney was singing on to me,” Halsey wrote over a clip rocking pink hair and a t-shirt that claims “Fortunate” throughout the entrance. “24 years later, these phrases hit totally different. love you perpetually.”

See it right here. Billboard has reached out to Spears’ reps for remark. “Fortunate” appeared on Spears’ sophomore album, Oops!… I Did it Once more, and peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Sizzling 100.

Final month, Halsey confirmed that their fifth studio album is full and on the best way, after followers seen that she had unveiled a cryptic new web site titled “ForMyLastTrick.com.” The web page boasts a number of illustrated badges, a few of them resulting in what seem like clues in regards to the new album. 

Halsey’s new document will observe 2021’s If I Can’t Have Love, I Need Energy, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
