Robbie Williams’ “Forbidden Road” Deemed Ineligible at Academy Awards

Robbie Williams “Forbidden Highway,” from his upcoming biopic Higher Man, was shortlisted on the 2025 Academy Awards however is not eligible. 

A letter to the Academy’s music department went out Friday, explaining that “Forbidden Highway” has been faraway from the perfect authentic tune shortlist because it “incorporates materials from an current tune that was not written for this movie.” The choice was made after the music committee reviewed supplies.

On the Oscars, a tune have to be an entire authentic to qualify. The shortlist will now have 14 songs vying for the highest 5 nomination slots as an alternative of 15; a alternative tune won’t be added.

Two songs from Emilia Pérez — “El Mal” and “Mi Camino,” written and composed by Clément Ducol and Camille — are on the shortlist. Others on the listing are Pharrell Williams for “Piece by Piece” from Piece by Piece; Elton John and Brandi Carlile for “By no means Too Late” from Elton John: By no means Too Late; Lin-Manuel Miranda for “Inform Me It’s You” from Mufasa: The Lion King; Maren Morris for “Kiss the Sky” from The Wild Robotic; Lainey Wilson for “Out of Oklahoma” from Twisters; Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for “Compress/Repress” from Challengers; and Diane Warren for “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight.

Higher Man may have a restricted launch opening on Dec. 25 and can go vast on Jan. 10. The movie is about Williams’ life and he’s portrayed by a computer-generated monkey. It was co-written, produced and directed by Michael Gracey.
