Andrew Lloyd Webber has composed new music for King Charles’ coronation.
The 74-year-old composer revealed he’s thrilled to have been requested to create new music for the “joyful event” and he has included phrases tailored from Psalm 98 into the anthem.
He tweeted: “I’m extremely honoured to have been requested to compose a brand new anthem for The Coronation. My anthem contains phrases tailored from Psalm 98. I’ve scored it for the Westminster Abbey choir and organ, the ceremonial brass and orchestra. I hope my anthem displays this joyful event.”
The coronation service, which is ready to happen at Westminster Abbey on 6 Could, will characteristic 12 newly-commissioned items of music.
King Charles has personally chosen the music for the ceremony, which can characteristic a gospel choir, together with Greek Orthodox music in reminiscence of his late father, Prince Philip.
Classical music from composers equivalent to William Byrd, George Handel and Sir Edward Elgar can be featured, alongside new music together with six items for orchestra, 5 choral works and a chunk for the organ.
The brand new music can be composed by Lloyd Webber, Patrick Doyle,, Iain Farrington, Sarah Class, Nigel Hess, Paul Mealor, Tarik O’Regan, Roxanna Panufnik, Shirley J. Thompson, Judith Weir, Roderick Williams and Debbie Wiseman.
