The familiarity of Morgan Freeman’s commanding voice couldn’t settle down the followers — 80,000 of them, reportedly — standing round Coachella’s Sahara Tent. The perilous tone of his monologue, paired with producer Mike Dean’s sinister synths, pressured the pageant’s want for a hero. And comedian e book animations projected on both facet of the stage illustrated there was just one man for the job.
Sporting a customized black Chrome Hearts swimsuit, a masked Metro Boomin emerged from beneath the stage, his purple cross-embroidered cape fluttering within the desert wind. However whatever the Academy Award-winning actor’s resounding introduction, it was the normally soft-spoken producer’s booming voice that caught festivalgoers — and considered one of his many visitor performers — without warning when he greeted the group.
“After we was executed, Future stored telling me, ‘Bro, I ain’t know who the f–ok was speaking!’ ” Metro remembers. “ ‘I ain’t know you would do this! You be in a room and simply be so quiet.’ ”
