Shawn Mendes launched his new single “What the Hell Are We Dying For?” inside 24 hours of creating it, and the pop star sat down with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 to debate the inspiration behind the heartbroken monitor.

“I really feel like during the last 12 months and a bit, I’ve simply been actually struggling within the studio to seek out my voice and to seek out myself musically and to even have the braveness simply to be within the room with writers or step into the sales space and sing,” he defined. “I used to be upstate New York and simply on the again finish of feeling lots of issues about relationships, about my profession, in regards to the surroundings. I used to be within the studio and this second of simply deep frustration came to visit me and I lastly began to really feel this inspiration come.
