Europe’s Joey Tempest admits it was a “drag” having their seems to be in comparison with Bon Jovi.
The ‘Closing Countdown’ group’s frontman admits teen magazines made up the “rivalries” between Europe and different 80s bands, together with the ‘It is My Life’ group, however they could not “complain”.
Talking to Basic Rock journal, the 59-year-old rocker mentioned of the comparisons: “It was fairly a shock for these suburban children from Stockholm.
“We had completed two albums, however then the promotion for ‘The Closing Countdown’ kicked in and instantly the teeny magazines had been throughout us. My preliminary factor was that I needed to appear like Robert Plant, however [the big hair] grew to become one thing. We had been being pitted in rivalries with these different bands, which was not the case. Proper from the beginning we had needed to be a touring rock band like Deep Purple, and instantly these silly questions [from pop magazines] had been coming left, proper and centre. We hadn’t anticipated that. It was sort of a drag for some time however we’re Swedes, we work arduous and do not complain.”
The band are embarking on a fortieth anniversary tour entitled ‘The Time Capsule’, which kicks off in Switzerland on September 30, and Joey has confirmed new music is within the works.
He mentioned: “Some writing has been happening and we’re on the stage the place we’re listening to what we’ve got. It appears as if there’s greater than we want. A few of them are superb. I want to launch a few songs earlier than the anniversary tour, although I am not going to vow that can occur – as a result of we would like them to be particular – however we’ll attempt to make it occur.”
