Forward of the discharge of Jaguar II, Victoria Monét‘s long-awaited debut studio album, the R&B singer/songwriter has unleashed a flashy new music video for her newest single, “On My Mama.”
That includes a colourful solid together with Chalie Boy, whose “I Look Good” is prominently sampled in “On My Mama,” in addition to her mom and daughter, Monét’s new music video is a nuanced, heartfelt tribute to 2000s Southern Black tradition. Directed by Youngster., the music video finds Monét effortlessly executing Sean Bankhead-crafted choreography in a rotating wardrobe of era-appropriate ‘matches, together with jersey clothes, outsized white fuel station tees and colourful durags, and dishevelled denims paired with midriff-baring tops. With references to Ciara, Future’s Youngster and Mýa, in addition to loving showcases of a number of Black Greek letter organizations and hilarious Black social media memes, the “On My Mama” music video is an absolute winner.
“On My Mama” follows the Fortunate Daye-assisted “Smoke” and “Celebration Ladies” (with Buju Banton) because the third single from Jaguar II. Slated for an Aug. 25 launch, Jaguar II is the sequel to 2020’s Jaguar, a lush EP that turned Monét’s first entry on the Billboard 200 (No. 174). Along with the aforementioned duets, Jaguar II can be set to function collaborations with Earth, Wind & Fireplace and Hazel Monét, her 2-year-old daughter.
Monét will observe the discharge of Jaguar II with the launch of The Jagaur Tour, her first headlining tour, kicking off Sept. 6 on the Majestic Theatre in Detroit. The Grammy-nominated artist is about to go to a number of cities throughout the U.S., U.Okay. and Canada, together with New York Metropolis, London, Toronto and Houston.
